Founded in 2016, the mission of World Sleep Society is to convene the world of sleep medicine science, practice, and advocacy. Sleep and circadian health professionals are welcome to join as Individual Members. In addition, over 50 professional sleep societies from Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Oceania have joined as Affiliate Societies. World Sleep Society comprises the largest international network and platform for sleep professionals in research and medicine.
World Sleep Society operates a range of programs to promote collaboration and advance sleep health worldwide. These programs include:
- The World Sleep congress, a biennial sleep research conference with 3000+ attendees from 80+ countries
- The World Sleep Academy, an online educational program in basic sleep medicine
- World Sleep Day, an international awareness day for sleep health held in March
- International Sleep Research Training Program, a mentorship program for sleep researchers
- International Practice Recommendations, translating the latest research into clinical practice relevant for diverse international contexts
- International Sleep Specialist Exam, a comprehensive examination in sleep medicine
- Healthier Sleep, a print and digital publication providing credible information on sleep to the public
